Polymers

Polymers Industry Information

The success story of polymers, more commonly known as plastics, did not start until the late 1940s when plastics became an integral part of people’s daily life. One reason for the success of plastics is the ability to tailor the properties of modern polymeric materials to specific uses and applications. Essential for the adjustment of the mechanical properties of polymers is the specific molecular weight and its distributions. Both factors can efficiently be controlled in the polymerization process by the addition of chain transfer agents (CTAs).

Chain Transfer Agents

Polymers Chain Transfer Agents

Chain transfer in free radical polymerization is a common approach to tailor the properties of a polymer manufactured by e.g. emulsion, suspension or solvent-borne polymerization. Mercaptan based Evabopol® additives provide a wide selection of CTAs for the individual polymerization processes.
